The sculpture was chosen by the Nebraska Wesleyan Art Council from the already completed works of the artist who had visited Lincoln about 1972. The sculpture was a gift of the Woods Charitable Fund. The sculpture was made in two separate pieces loosely joined by large extension rods which slip into holes in the adjoining section. The artist suggested that the piece be placed on a grassy area without foundation, but this resulted in the center sagging and the pieces coming apart. Consequently, the piece was placed on a concrete slab. It was also originally located much closer to the library, but was moved for greater visibility.
