Harvest, by artist Ed Carpenter, was installed adjacent to the Pinnacle Bank Arena in August 2016.
From the artist’s website:
As the sun passes through its rich layers of stainless steel and glass, arrays of light and shadow are reflected outward, slowly moving through the plaza. At night, two rings of powerful light fixtures at the base illuminate its expansive gesture through programmed light sequences.
The forms of the sculpture may suggest a sheaf of wheat, fountain, or the supports from the historic train canopy immediately adjacent. The wheat sheaf symbolizes the bounty of the region. It also signifies strength, because bound together the strands of wheat are strong, but singly, they will break or bend.
Fifty five thousand pounds of polished stainless steel were used in the fabrication of “Harvest”, along with 420 panels of laminated glass and 80 stainless steel cables structurally linking the sculpture from top to bottom.
